MONROE, Wis. — One man is dead after his UTV overturned in Green County on Tuesday afternoon.
Dispatchers received a report of a person pinned under a UTV at 30th Street along the City of Monroe and Clarno Township border at around 1:30 p.m. Authorities were sent to the scene and found an overturned John Deere Gator UTV south of Monroe High School.
Green County Sheriff Jeff Skatrud said a man was extricated from beneath the vehicle and was taken to a hospital for life-threatening injuries. Officials said the man later died of injuries he suffered in the crash.
Wardens with the state Department of Natural Resources investigated the incident, with an initial search revealing the UTV was heading northbound on Jerffery Road in Clarno Township when the driver went off the road while trying to make a left-hand curve onto 30th Street.
Officials said it appeared the driver was not wearing a safety harness or helmet when the vehicle overturned. The man’s name has not been released at this time.
The Green County Sheriff’s Office, Monroe Police Department, Green County EMS and Monroe Rural Fire Department assisted at the scene.
