MADISON, Wis. — Police took three teens into custody Thursday morning for their alleged involvement in a recent crime spree.
Officials with the Fitchburg Police Department said officers with the FPD and the Madison Police Department, alongside SWAT personnel, converged around 9 a.m. on a home in the 2900 block of Turbot Drive after the teens were reportedly seen entering the home.
After law enforcement arrived, two 15-year-olds and a 17-year-old left the residence and officers took them into custody. According to a news release, a car reported stolen earlier that day was found nearby.
Fitchburg police said the two 15-year-olds were suspects in a Sunday, June 6 robbery where a 14-year-old girl was hit in the head with a firearm. Police said their investigation into the Sunday robbery led them to the Turbot Drive area where police spotted the teens walking from the stolen car to the Turbot Drive residence, where one of the suspects lives.
Authorities executed a search warrant at the Turbot Drive residence once the teens were in custody. During their search, police said they found evidence tied to the June 6 robbery, a 9mm handgun, and an air pistol that looked like a real gun.
Police also found evidence tied to a number of recent residential burglaries. Law enforcement officials are working to tie the evidence to a number of crimes, including burglaries, vehicle thefts and financial crimes.
According to the release, the two 15-year-olds were taken to the Dane County Juvenile Reception Center on charges tied to the June 6 armed robbery. Both have previous histories with the youth justice system, and one is on electronic monitoring.
The 17-year-old was taken to the Dane County Jail and booked on robbery, felony theft and misappropriation of personal identifying materials charges.
