ROCKTON, Ill. — Hundreds, if not thousands of people live within the 1-mile radius that has been ordered to evacuate following a massive fire at Chemtool Inc.
The Red Cross has since responded to help as many people as possible.
“That whole uncertainty is horrible. That’s why we’re here to help them walk through that process,” Executive Director of the Northwest Illinois Chapter of the Red Cross Leslie Luther said. “We’ll be here through it all so they have somewhere safe to be, somewhere cool and water to drink.”
Right when they got the initial call Monday morning, the Red Cross opened an evacuation site in Roscoe.
Officials said they’re prepared for moments like this, and can call in help from other states, or put people in hotels if it’s needed.
