MADISON, Wis. — Public Health Madison & Dane County is closing Esther Beach on Lake Monona due to elevated levels of bacteria.
PHMDC says the elevated levels were found during testing on Thursday. The beach will remain closed until bacteria levels drop.
Esther Beach Park is on Lake Monona at 2802 Waunona Way, off of Broadway near South Towne Mall. As of noon Friday, it is the only Dane County beach closed due to elevated bacteria levels.
PHMDC tests the water at local beaches for cyanobacteria (also known as blue-green algae) and E.coli bacteria from Memorial Day until Labor Day.
You can check the latest beach closings and water conditions on PHMDC’s website.
