MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin State Patrol is identifying the woman who could face charges after a crash on I-39 near Stoughton that killed an 8-year-old boy.
The State Patrol says 36-year-old Stephanie Hansen of Carpentersville, Illinois was driving a 2002 Honda minivan on the interstate Wednesday afternoon when the van blew a tire, lost control and rolled several times.
One person — an 8-year-old boy from Carpentersville — died after being airlifted to the hospital. Authorities will not be releasing the child’s name.
Four other children — a 3-year-old boy, 8-year-old girl, 11-year-old boy and 13-year-old girl — also suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash.
Hansen and another adult were also hurt in the crash, but their injuries were not considered life-threatening. Hansen was arrested for 2nd offense Operating with Impairment, but the State Patrol says alcohol was not involved in the crash.
The Wisconsin State Patrol is continuing to investigate.
