MADISON, Wis. — Firefighters responded Thursday to a westside residence after a candle started a small fire in a bathroom.
Crews were dispatched around 8:30 p.m. to the 1100 block of Morraine View Drive for a report of a fire.
Investigators found the fire started when a candle came in contact with decorations sitting on top of a toilet. Some of the burning items dropped behind the toilet where they set other items on fire, eventually burning through the toilet’s water supply line.
Water from the supply line sprayed throughout the bathroom, ultimately putting the fire out and slightly flooding the room.
Fire officials said the family was alerted to the fire thanks to smoke alarms.
Firefighters helped ventilate the unit and property management came to make repairs to the bathroom.
