TOWN OF WIOTA, Wis. — A GoFundMe has been created for the family of a 7-year-old girl who drowned in the Pecatonica River on Saturday night.
Lafayette County officials said the girl and two other children had gone into the river near the County M boat landing west of Woodford. The river’s current swept the girl under the water, and officials said they found her body early Sunday morning.
The girl’s family has identified her as Leah Foster. Leah was the youngest of three children and attended Blackhawk School District.

Leah’s aunt Trish Foster told News 3 Now she loved the outdoors and spending time with friends and family.
The girl’s family has had an especially rough time, as Leah’s mother is battling stage 4 stomach and liver cancer. Her father is a member of the Woodford Fire Department.
Foster’s family wants the public to recognize the importance of water safety for children.
The GoFundMe was created as a memorial fund to help Leah’s family with funeral expenses. As of 9:20 p.m. Monday, more than $22,000 has been raised.
A meal train has also been organized to assist the family.
