MADISON, Wis. — A Madison man has been officially charged with a fatal hit-and-run crash on East Washington Avenue over the weekend.
Antoine Johnson, 35, was charged Thursday with felony hit-and-run resulting in death and misdemeanor bail jumping.
According to a criminal complaint, a Madison police officer was driving along East Washington Avenue and saw a man lying in the median lane between North Paterson and North Livingston streets early Saturday morning. The officer said several cars were stopped and multiple people stood around the victim, who was later identified as 30-year-old Sean Crisco.
The officer looked at city cameras at the intersection and saw a crash had happened at around 1:20 a.m., just moments before the officer found Crisco. The complaint said the camera footage revealed inbound traffic had a green light when a vehicle struck the victim, who was pronounced dead roughly one hour later.
Officials at the scene reported seeing vehicle parts on the road belonging to a red Chevrolet Impala.
Police later received a tip of a red Impala with a shattered windshield and “significant” front-end damage that reportedly belonged to Johnson. The complaint said the man turned himself in Tuesday after learning of Crisco’s death through new reports and family.

According to the complaint, Johnson told officials he felt contact during the collision but continued driving because he thought an object was thrown at his car. He was taken into custody without incident.
Johnson appeared in court for a bond hearing Tuesday, where the judge set his bail at $1,000.
According to court records, Johnson cannot drink alcohol or use controlled substances without a valid prescription. He’s also prohibited from driving vehicles.
Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway said the fatal hit-and-run has reemphasized the importance of “Vision Zero,” which is the City’s plan to eliminate all traffic deaths by 2030. The plan includes lowering speed limits, narrowing lanes and installing high-visibility crosswalks.
