MADISON, Wis. — A generous donation from a 90-year-old woman will help launch the Boys & Girls Club Regional Youth Workforce Center.
They Boys & Girls Club is currently fundraising for the center, which will help train young people in skilled trades like construction and electrical plumbing.
The donation is for $140,000. Jean McKenzie closed her bank account so she could donate the money to the cause. Her son said the donation will make a big difference.
“If 28% of the kids or so maybe go to college, we’ve got all these other kids that now are going to have a wonderful option, and an option that they really weren’t aware of because the schools haven’t really pushed skill trades,” John McKenzie said.
McKenzie also helped form a partnership between the Madison Area Builders Association and the Boys & Girls Club for the project.
