COLUMBUS, Wis. — One person died Sunday in a motorcycle crash on County Highway N near the Dane-Columbia County line.
Officials with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said crews were dispatched around 3:15 p.m. to County Highway N near Bristol Road in the Town of Columbus. A passerby had reportedly spotted the motorcyclist and began CPR on the driver while emergency crews were en route.
The motorcyclist, a 50-year-old Cottage Grove resident, ultimately died at the scene. They were not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
An initial investigation revealed the driver was traveling through the corners on County Highway N when they left the roadway and entered a ditch.
Authorities said alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, but speed was not.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Sun Prairie Fire Department, Deforest emergency medical services, Dane County Sheriff’s Office, UW Medflight and Columbia County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene.
