MADISON, Wis. — The United States Attorney’s Office says a Darlington man has been sentenced to 8 years in prison on federal child pornography charges.
36-year-old Alan J. Liphart was sentenced Thursday in federal court.
Prosecutors say Liphart was arrested on May 25, 2020 for violating a condition of a previous probation and had his cell phone seized. Officers looked through Liphart’s phone and found text messages from 2015 between him and a then-14-year-old child. One of the messages included Liphart asking the child to send a picture of their genitals, which the child did.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says other messages indicated he traveled to meet the child and paid them for sexual acts.
U.S. District Judge William M. Conley levied the sentence, which also includes 25 years of extended supervision after Liphart is released from prison.
Conley noted that Liphart has a long criminal history that began when he was 15 years old, and said Liphart did not take his treatment as a sex offender seriously, and because of that, considered him a danger to the community.
