MADISON, Wis. — A 24-year-old Madison man was sentenced to prison Wednesday for possessing a firearm as a felon.
Xavier Arthur, 24, was sentenced to 30 months in prison, according to Acting US Attorney Timothy M. O’Shea’s office. He will also serve three years of supervised release. Arthur pleaded guilty to the charge April 1.
On May 25, 2020, a Sun Prairie police officer pulled over Arthur after the car he was driving nearly hit a bicyclist. The driver was later arrested for operating while under the influence.
Officials found a loaded 9mm handgun in the man’s pocket as well as an extended magazine in the center console of his car.
Arthur was convicted of felony bail jumping and misdemeanor domestic battery in 2019. He also has a pending charge out of Illinois for possession of a 9mm firearm with a defaced serial number.
