RICHLAND CENTER, Wis. — Former Richland Center police chief Lucas Clements, who resigned amid sexual assault allegations in 2019, has been acquitted of all criminal charges following a jury trial.
Clements was charged with three counts of 4th degree sexual assault and one count of theft in connection to an incident on June 16, 2019, in which a bartender said Clements appeared to be drunk when he walked in the bar before allegedly assaulting her in the office and a bathroom of the restaurant.
She also claimed Clements stole hundreds of dollars in tip money as he left the bar while she was trying to hide from him.
Clements was on paid leave for four months before charges were filed in October 2019. Clements resigned as police chief about a week later. Acting chief Billy Jones was sworn in as full-time chief in January 2020.
A jury found Clements not guilty on all counts Friday afternoon after a three-day trial and just under four hours of deliberations.
