MADISON, Wis. — A stolen vehicle was recovered after Madison police responded to a traffic complaint Tuesday morning.
According to an incident report, a gray Volkswagen Jetta was reported stolen from the 300 block of South Mills Street at around 6:30 a.m. The victim said he last saw the vehicle the previous night and that the car was unlocked with an extra key in the door compartment.
The car was no longer there when he left to go to work. At around the same time, an officer received a report of a vehicle driving at high speeds.
The officer arrived and found someone matching the driver’s description who ran away from the scene. The car was also spotted nearby, and stolen property was found inside the vehicle.
Passersby told police there were three teens in the area before the officer had searched the stolen vehicle.
The car was later recovered and reclaimed by its owner.
