An Alert Day is now in the forecast for Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.
A round showers and thunderstorms will move from Northern to Southern Wisconsin Wednesday night, bringing the threat of high winds, heavy rainfall (potential flooding in urban areas), large hail, and, we can’t rule out the potential of an isolated tornado. All of southern Wisconsin is under a slight risk for severe weather on Wednesday.
The initial round of showers and thunderstorms looks to begin Wednesday night. Northern Wisconsin will be impacted first as the system works its way south through the night. The round looks to be organized and will contain strong winds and some hail with the storms as it tracks south through the night.
As the system continues to move into southern Wisconsin, heavy rainfall looks to be expected throughout the duration of the event. Strong wind gusts and even hail are possible throughout the night.
Southern Wisconsin could experience severe storm impacts on the back half of this event after the heavy rainfall has shifted southeast. Wind gusts will remain strong through the night.
Thunderstorms and showers will begin tapering off early Thursday morning. A reminder, primary threats with this event include: strong wind gusts, heavy rainfall that could lead to localized flooding, and, large hail which could be damaging. The potential of an isolated tornado is not out of the question at this time. Rainfall totals could be 3-5″ for some areas, mainly northeast of Dane County.
