MADISON, Wis. — As severe storms with the potential for hurricane-force winds roll in to central and northern Wisconsin, some area residents have reported seeing large storm clouds while others have reported varying levels of damage.
Storms moving into the area may form into what is called a derecho, which is mesoscale convective system that has a long-lived path, and it usually delivers a punch of extremely strong straight-line winds.
The last time a derecho hit the Midwest, the storm caused extensive property damage throughout the region and thousands were left without power.
