MADISON, Wis. — Dane County residents are strongly encouraged to once again wear masks while inside regardless of their vaccination status.
Public Health Madison & Dane County issued the recommendation on Thursday following a sharp increase in new COVID-19 cases linked to the Delta Variant. Medical experts suggest anyone age two or older wear a mask when indoors and around people from outside of their household.
“We’re currently facing another pivotal moment in the COVID-19 pandemic response,” said Katrina Grande, who leads the COVID team for Public Health Madison & Dane County.
New case counts are trending upward in Dane County. Two weeks ago, the county’s 7-day average was 10 cases. As of Thursday, it’s at 36 cases and rising. Over half of the cases seen during this increase involve people who are unvaccinated.
“With how contagious delta is, we need to do all we can right now to stop further spread,” Grande said.
As of now, no mandatory mandate is in place for Dane County. Public health experts are also encouraging people to get vaccinated.
“We’ve come this far by taking simple steps to protect ourselves and each other, but we can’t stop now, Grande added.
