MADISON, Wis. — Police arrested an “incredibly violent” robbery suspect in downtown Madison on Wednesday morning, according to an incident report.
Police were sent to a store on the 400 block of State Street at around 11:40 a.m. after the victim said they were robbed by a man who was armed with a weapon. The victim said the man stole two pairs of shoes and left on foot.
The report said University of Wisconsin-Madison police officers happened to be in the area and saw someone who matched the suspect’s description. City of Madison officers later discovered the stolen shoes wrapped in a shirt nearby where the man was found.
Police arrested Andrew Coffey, 33, on tentative charges of disorderly conduct while armed, retail theft and obstructing.
An investigation is ongoing.
