MADISON, Wis. — News 3 Now is partnering with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Dane County to hold a back-to-school supplies drive, helping collect everything from pencils and notebooks to hand sanitizer for area families as kids get ready to go back to in-person learning this fall.
The drive kicked off on August 2nd and runs through August 15th.
Boys and Girls Club CEO Michael Johnson joined News 3 Now This Morning on Friday as part of the drive.
“We just want to do everything that we can to make sure that kids in our community have the supplies they need, especially not being in the classroom for so long,” Johnson said.
Boys and Girls Club Vice President of Operations Tiffany Loomis says for elementary school-aged kids, they are specifically looking for backpacks and facial tissue. For high school-aged kids, the biggest need is for headphones and calculators. They’re also collecting items for college-aged kids, who need laundry detergent, Lysol wipes and flash drives.
“Going back to school is so stressful already, and so being able to show up and support in this way consistently and say, ‘Hey, here is one less thing that you need to worry about,’” said interim vice president of education Taylor Jackson on why drives like this are so important. “Our students can show up and feel like they are prepared and successful.”
You can choose items from the Amazon Wish List or drop off your own unused supplies at News 3 Now at 7025 Raymond Road on Madison’s west side or any Boys and Girls Club location. You can also make a monetary donation to the Boys and Girls Club.
