TOWN OF BURNSIDE (WKBT) — A police chase over the weekend in Trempealeau County reached speeds of up to 105 mph before the driver lost control and crashed into another vehicle.
The male driver of a vehicle, who was not identified, is facing charges of felony fleeing police and recklessly endangering safety after the chase that began on Hwy. 93, according to the Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office.
A sergeant in the sheriff’s department attempted to stop the vehicle near Elk Creek because the driver was involved in a disorderly incident. Rather than stop, the driver took off, reaching 105 mph and driving in the wrong lane. An Independence Police Department officer deployed spike strips in the city of Independence. The driver swerved to avoid them and crashed head-on into a pickup truck headed north.
The driver and passenger in the car that fled police were taken to nearby hospitals by helicopter for unknown injuries.
The two occupants of the pickup were taken by ambulance to nearby hospitals with minor injuries.
Assiting the Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office were the Independence Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Independence Fire and First Responders, Tri-County Ambulance, Arcadia Ambulance, Mayo One Helicopter and Gundersen Air Helicopter.
