MADISON, Wis. – The Madison Metropolitan School District board is calling on administrators to develop a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for its staff members by late September.
The school board unanimously voted 7-0 to pass a resolution supporting a vaccine mandate for all employees during a special meeting Monday night.
The resolution calls on district administration to come up with a plan to verify employees’ vaccination status, create a means by which employees can request a waiver in cases such as medical or religious exemption, and set up COVID testing for non-vaccinated staff.

Board members said the fact the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine has now been fully approved by the FDA factored into their decision.
The resolution asks the plan be presented for discussion by Sept. 20 so board members could vote on it as soon as Sept. 27.
