MILTON, Wis. — A Milton man is facing several charges after he allegedly shot into the back seat of a car near the city’s YMCA.
Police said they got multiple calls shortly after 7:30 p.m. Monday reporting a man firing at a vehicle on Parkview Drive. When they arrived, police said they found 25-year-old Nathan A. Baumeister in possession of a handgun. Two vehicles, a car and a truck, were also parked on the road with two women present.
According to police, the car, which was driven by one of the women, had broken down earlier. She called the other woman and Baumeister — both of whom are family — for help. When the second woman and Baumeister arrived, the first woman got behind the wheel of the car while the second woman got behind the wheel of the truck, which had a tow strap connected to the car. Baumeister got behind the car to push it.
The woman driving the car reportedly thought she was going to rear-end the truck, so she hit the brakes, which angered Baumeister. Baumeister then walked to the driver’s side of the car, pulled out the gun and pointed it at the driver before moving the gun to his right and firing a round into the back seat of the car, police said.
During the investigation, Baumeister reportedly told officers he fired the gun out of frustration and didn’t intend to hurt anyone.
Baumeister was charged with second-degree recklessly endangering safety, intentionally pointing a firearm at a person, operating a firearm while intoxicated and disorderly conduct while armed.
Milton police said the Rock County Sheriff’s Office helped with the investigation.
