MADISON, Wis. — UW Health is launching a new clinic to fight sickle cell disease.
Sickle cell disease causes red blood cells to develop abnormally, impacting blood flow and causing pain and issues with bones, joints, and organs.
The disease disproportionately impacts people of color and requires lifelong care from specialists. Cases of sickle cell disease are growing in Wisconsin.
The clinic is still in an early phase.
