MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin Department of Health Services is asking Wisconsinites to mask up, and avoid indoor gatherings this Labor Day weekend.
“COVID-19 cases are rising in Wisconsin due to the more contagious Delta variant,” Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ryan Westergaard said in a statement Wednesday. “It is critical that we take action now to prevent further spread of the virus.”
The 7-day average of confirmed new cases is 1,699, the highest it has been in over six months.
“Let’s use all of our effective prevention tools,” Dr. Westergaard said. “Get vaccinated, wear masks when gathering indoors, and stay home if you’re feeling sick.”

The DHS recommends that everyone wear a mask while indoors, including those who are fully vaccinated. This is because Wisconsin has substantial to high rates of COVID-19 transmission according to the CDC.
As of August 30th, the seven-day average of confirmed-plus-probable COVID-19 cases in Dane County is 62 according to the Wisconsin DHS.
