MADISON, Wis. — A local festival is making its return after the pandemic forced its cancellation last year, and despite a few changes, organizers say they’re happy to be back.
The 39th annual Taste of Madison is happening this weekend at Breese Stevens Field. It will take place over the course of three sessions each day to avoid overcrowding. Ticket sales were also capped at 5,000 per session, with 2,000 donated to local first responders.
“Taste of Madison is a fundraising event,” said Sara Klemme, president of Madison Festivals. “These events in general, whether its Taste of Madison or other big events that are nonprofit are so vital to our economy.”
The event is usually hosted outside the Capitol, the venue change was another safety precaution taken by organizers. Klemme says that as much as she’s been enjoying the new location, the festival will return to its original venue in future years.
“Rest assured, as much as we love being at Breese Stevens Field, this is just a temporary thing,” said Klemme.
Overall, organizers are just happy to be back.
“It’s fun to see smiling faces, it’s fun to hear live music … it’s just really, really fun to be back at in-person events,” said Klemme.
