MADISON, Wis. — The man accused in a drunk driving crash that killed three local high school students will have a plea hearing in July, according to court records.
A notice of a plea hearing on July 28, 2022 for 31-year-old Eric Mehring was filed in Dane County court Monday, following a pre-trial conference last week to agree on a plea date.

Mehring was charged with three counts each of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, second-degree reckless homicide, and second-degree recklessly endangering safety following a crash on West Mineral Point Road on the night of October 2, 2021 that killed three local teenagers: Simon Bilessi, Jack Miller and Evan Krotochwill.
A criminal complaint filed in the case alleges Mehring crashed into the teens’ vehicle going 75 mph. A breath test found Mehring had a BAC of .242 at the time.
Bilessi was a senior at Madison West High School, while Miller and Kratochwill were seniors at Middleton High School. All three died at the scene of the crash, which happened just days before Homecoming at Middleton High. Community members remembered the three as “bright lights” in the community, with each of the teens heavily involved in their schools.
