Mineral Point Man Injured and Charged With OWI After Crash

A man from Mineral Point was injured and charged with OWI following a rollover crash in Lafayette County just before midnight Monday. A deputy with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department responded to County Highway G in Willow Springs Township for a one vehicle rollover crash. 32 year old Stephen Smith of Mineral Point lost control of his vehicle, causing it to go off the road, enter a ditch and roll over. Smith was cited for Operating While Intoxicated and Failure to Maintain Control of his vehicle. Smith was taken to Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County in Darlington and later transferred to UW Madison Hospital for injuries. Darlington Fire, the Darlington Police Department, and Lafayette County EMS assisted at the scene.
