MADISON, Wis. — Madison police arrested a man who they say shot and wounded another man on the city’s east side earlier this month.
Police said Cameron Barber-Smith, 22, shot a 21-year-old man multiple times on the evening of May 5 in the 4300 block of Nakoosa Trail. Barber-Smith allegedly approached a house and shot the victim who was standing on a balcony.

Multiple bullets also went into an apartment with three adults and a baby inside; all four were unhurt. Police said Barber-Smith knew the victim.
Barber-Smith was identified as a person of interest after the shooting and was arrested for a parole violation during a traffic stop last week. Online court records show that he was charged with one count of attempted first-degree intentional homicide.
During an initial appearance on Friday, guilty pleas were entered for Barber-Smith for any misdemeanor counts. His cash bond was set at $150,000. As a condition of his bond, he is not allowed to have any contact with the victim, cannot possess any type of dangerous weapon, and cannot go to Nakoosa Trail or Obrien Court.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 26.
