MADISON, Wis. — A 42-year-old woman is in custody and facing potential charges of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle after she reportedly hit a bicyclist with a car Tuesday morning on Mineral Point Road.
Officers on the scene said the victim was a male in his early 30s.
The west side intersection of Mineral Point and South High Point Roads was partially closed as crews responded to a crash injuring at least one person. The scene is expected to be cleared around 9 a.m. The nearby Kwik Trip also closed at 5 a.m. because of the crash.
Officers on scene told News 3 Now they were administering CPR to one person around 4:30 a.m. Shortly before 6 a.m., our crews saw a medical examiner arrive on scene. Our crews said a body was loaded into the back of a van with license plates from Cress Funeral Home.
The crash happened just as Madison was kicking off Bike Week. Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway addressed the incident during a press conference Tuesday, and reiterated the city’s efforts to make roads safer for bicyclists.
