MADISON, Wis. — Madison police are investigating after someone vandalized the front of a local church.
A message criticizing St. Bernard Catholic Church’s stance on abortion was spray-painted onto the front door of the building.

The message contained profanity and also accused the church of being responsible for the deaths of Native American children. Churches nationwide have come under scrutiny in recent years over the treatment of Native Americans at boarding schools during a more than 100-year-long federal campaign to strip them of their cultural identities and heritage.
The graffiti comes in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, and nearly one month since the office of anti-abortion group Wisconsin Family Action was vandalized and set on fire.
Police said the graffiti was likely done overnight. Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.
