MADISON, Wis. – Hawk’s Bar & Grill celebrated 20 years of service Saturday by inviting community members to a family friendly gathering at the State Street staple.
The event featured face painting, a magician, balloon animals and a special visit from Bucky Badger.
“It’s very bizarre that it’s been 20 years,” said owner Hawk Sullivan. “People say that time goes by faster when you get older and that’s definitely true.”
In the two decades they’ve stayed open he said, they’ve seen a lot of highs and some lows but have always loved the variety of customers they get downtown.
Sullivan also said what makes Hawk’s special and most all keeps it going are the staff. Many of them, both current and former employees, turned up to the event to celebrate.
“We don’t take ourselves very seriously,” Sullivan said. “It’s been great.”
He also said over the years the bar has changed to become more family friendly, in line with the changes in his personal life when he became a father about 10 years ago.
He plans to keep the doors open for as long as he can with the hopes of one day passing the business down to his kids.
