MADISON, Wis. — Drivers on John Nolen Drive will need to be mindful of their speed Monday.
The portion of the road between North Shore Drive to East Lakeside Street will have its speed limit cut from 45 mph to 35 mph. That same portion is set for a planned reconstruction in 2026, the City of Madison announced.

The reduction is part of the city’s Vision Zero efforts. The initiative aims to reduce traffic-related injuries and deaths around the city.
“Lowering speed limits and redesigning streets to support safer driving is critical to ending serious and fatal crashes on our city streets,” Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway said in a statement.
John Nolen isn’t the only road where drivers will have to ease off the gas pedal. Portions of Mineral Point, Old Sauk, Portage and Segoe Roads will also see their speed limits reduced later this year.
