MADISON, Wis. — A group marched from James Madison Park to the Wisconsin State Capitol Wednesday night to remember those who have died from or suffered a permanent injury due to a drug overdose.
The event coincided with International Overdose Awareness Day.
“Everyone knows someone that’s suffering from substance use disorder or someone that’s passed from overdose death,” attendee Vanessa Wheeler Hurr said. “We’re all connected, so why not build each other up and move forward?”
Organizers said the day is an opportunity to create better understanding of overdoses while reducing the stigma of drug-related deaths.
