MADISON, Wis. — For the first time in Madison Mallards history, a woman is the General Manager.
“It still hasn’t really sunk in fully,” Samantha Rubin said. The announcement was made on Tuesday. She is only the fourth person ever to serve as the team’s GM.

“I’m from Florida originally,” said Rubin. “I grew up playing sports, I was actually a rower in college. Sports have always been such a huge outlet for me and a huge part of my life. To transfer that into my job and have this view of a ballpark is the ultimate goal.”
Rubin had previously served as the Assistant General Manager for the Mallards.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better opportunity here,” said Rubin. “The people are amazing. You get a veteran group of people who have been here for so long, but then you get those newer people that I brought in when I was hired.”
“In just 9 months here, she’s done an amazing job creating a connection with our staff, our fans, she’s a natural leader,” Mallards President Vern Stenman said. “Seeing women excel in sports and business is something we’ve been working on for a long time.”
Rubin said there are only a handful of women in general manager positions in the 24-team Northwoods league.
“This is just such a huge thing for the Mallards as a brand, but even as a community,” said Rubin. “It shows where we need to be, and where we’re going to.”
