MADISON, Wis. — Classes began Wednesday for the start of the fall semester at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Enrollment numbers from the university’s official census are not yet available, but officials expect the incoming freshman class of around 8,600 to be the university’s largest ever class.

As students return to classes, they will find the same COVID-19 policy that was in place at the end of the spring. Masks may be worn but are not required in university buildings.
