MONONA, Wis. — Classes at Monona Grove High School are canceled Friday after the sudden death of a teacher.
A message on the district’s home page asked families with children at their school to check their e-mail for more information, adding the building would be open for students and staff who wanted “support, counseling, and companionship in grief.”
The e-mail to parents, which has been shared on social media, said art teacher, Anime Club and Asian Club supervisor and tennis coach Charles Pyng collapsed while coaching a tennis match Thursday evening and later passed away.
Pyng lived in Monona with his wife and three children, the e-mail said.
“This is an incredibly difficult time for students and staff alike,” principal Mitch McGrath said in the e-mail to parents. “It will be important that we all pull together and thoughtfully support one another. Please let us know if your student needs support processing this loss.”
