A jury awarded $425,000 to a woman who was badly injured when she was hit by a van driven by an employee of Sisters of St. Francis in Dubuque. The payout for Raegan Reid of Dubuque consists of $250,000 for “past pain and suffering,” $75,000 for “future pain and suffering,” $50,000 for “past loss of function of mind or body” and “$50,000 for future loss of function of mind or body.” Reid filed the lawsuit in June 2020 against Sisters of St. Francis and employee Gary Sheldon after Sheldon hit Reid as she was walking across a roundabout. The suit claimed that Sheldon was looking back at people he had just dropped off and that he said he never saw Reid until it was too late to avoid hitting her.
