DODGEVILLE, Wis. â The Iowa County man convicted earlier this year of beating and stabbing his mother and dog to death in 2021 was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison with the opportunity for parole after 40 years.
In July, a jury found Sean Pickett, 23, of Avoca, guilty of felony charges of first-degree intentional homicide and mistreatment of animals causing death. Pickett had told investigators he was possessed, heard âevil noisesâ and âblacked outâ before killing Susan Pickett and the dog named Chico.
During a sentencing hearing Tuesday afternoon, the state recommended Pickett be sentenced to life in prison without parole on the murder charge and 18 months in prison followed by two years of extended supervision on the animal mistreatment charge, online court records show.
Pickettâs attorney argued a judge should allow the consideration of extended supervision after Pickett served 20 years behind bars.
