MADISON, Wis. — State authorities have canceled an AMBER Alert for a 17-year-old girl from Madison after law enforcement found her safe Thursday afternoon.
Officials had been searching for her since Thursday morning when Laniyah Hampton’s mother called police saying the girl was potentially in “imminent danger.”
Police said they believed the girl was with 36-year-old Paul Williams III. Williams has a warrant out for his arrest, and police are still looking for him in connection with Hampton’s disappearance.
Authorities said Williams is a Black man who is 6 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs 244 pounds. He has brown eyes, black braided hair, and tattoo sleeves on both arms. He also may be walking on crutches.
Williams is reportedly known to visit the Beloit and Janesville areas in southern Wisconsin.
Police had previously listed a 2019 silver or black Chevrolet Malibu and 2009 silver Chrysler Aspen as potential suspect vehicles, but said in an updated report that they’re no longer looking for either vehicle.
