JANESVILLE, Wis. — A 9-year-old boy was killed in Janesville on Wednesday after a driver hit them with a vehicle, police confirmed.
According to an alert from the Janesville Police Department, the boy was hit at the intersection of East Memorial Drive and Prairie Avenue, roughly a mile east of the Rock River, shortly after 3:15 p.m.
Emergency crews took him to a local hospital where he later died of injuries he suffered in the crash.
Police said the incident is still under investigation.
School District of Janesville spokesperson Patrick Gasper confirmed to News 3 Now the child was a student at nearby Adams Elementary School.
The school does not have classes on Friday due to a teacher work day, so the district is planning to have extra support staff available next week, he said.
