MADISON, Wis. — Bereaved parents and their supporters walked around Capitol Square Saturday night to raise awareness for pregnancy and infant loss.
The group gathered for the second annual Empty Stroller Awareness Walk. Attendees were encouraged to walk with an empty stroller, a powerful image showing the emptiness families are left with when an infant dies.
Some families put photos, memorial bears and other special items in the stroller to honor their lost children.
“We carry empty strollers around, and we hold their memories with us forever,” walk co-founder Felica Turner-Walton said. “They don’t just go away once that child passes away.”
A candlelight vigil was also held after the walk to honor infants gone too soon.
