WAUNAKEE, Wis. — A group of people packed into Waunakee High School on Sunday for a good cause.
The group lined up assembly-style to prepare meals bound for the Dane County Community Action Coalition and Ukrainian refugees.
“Over the course of the year, we’re prepping and fundraising and preparing for today,” Joni Juergens said. She and Jamie Griffin were the brains behind this year’s Food 4 Kidz event.
The meals only cost about a quarter a piece, and the group at the high school spent the day making thousands of bags that would ultimately become meals. That food won’t just help local people in need, but those abroad as well.
“About 70 thousand meals stayed local,” Juergens said. “The rest of the food is going to Ukraine. We are working with the orphan grain train to get the food there.”
“To be able to make a difference for those struggling overseas, but also those in Dane county is a win-win,” Grifin said.
