MADISON, Wis. — Two men accused of shooting and killing a man outside the Dane County Jail earlier this year will have their day in court next summer.
Amond Galtney, 26, and Demone Cummins, 21, are charged in the death of Dwayne Lee Collins Jr., 32 of Fitchburg.
Not guilty pleas were entered for both men in May. Online court records show that jury selection is scheduled for June 20 of next year. The trial will begin on June 21 and is scheduled to run through June 23.
Galtney and Cummins are accused of shooting Collins multiple times on March 29 as he left the jail following a court appearance earlier in the day. Collins was pronounced dead at a local hospital just over half an hour after the shooting.
Galtney is charged with first-degree intentional homicide as a party to a crime and attempting to operate a vehicle to flee or elude an officer. Cummins is charged with first-degree intentional homicide, possession of more than three-to-ten grams of heroin with intent to distribute and illegally selling, possessing, using or transporting machine guns.
