MADISON, Wis. — State Sen. Melissa Agard of Madison launched her bid Wednesday to become the next Senate Minority Leader.
Agard has represented the 16th Senate District in the State Senate since 2021. She previously served in the State Assembly, representing the 48th Assembly District from 2013 to 2021.
“Senate Democrats know that our ideas, supported by the vast majority of our friends and neighbors, can move our state forward,” Agard said in a statement. “Wisconsin does better when we all work together to honor the will of the people.”
Agard is looking to replace Sen. Janet Bewley, who has represented the 25th Senate District since 2015.
Bewley replaced Jennifer Shilling as minority leader in 2020 after Shilling announced she would step down. Bewley announced her retirement from the State Senate earlier this year.
