MILWAUKEE — Wisconsin Lt. Gov. and Democratic challenger for U.S. Senate Mandela Barnes has officially conceded the race to incumbent Sen. Ron Johnson after results showed a slim margin between the two.
Barnes told his supporters at Sherman Phoenix — the same location where he launched his U.S. Senate campaign — that he had called Sen. Johnson ahead of making the announcement publicly.
“I got into this race because I believe in the Wisconsin Promise of a fair shot at success, whether you’re a dairy farmer in Monroe, or a thrift store owner in Superior, or a kid born on 26th and Locust, right here in the city of Milwaukee, and I believe in that promise more today than I’ve ever believed in it before,” Barnes said.

Despite the loss, Barnes promised to keep fighting for the people that supported him.
“Unfortunately, we didn’t get over the finish line this time. But I know that this movement has meant so much to all of us, where just because we didn’t get across the finish line, that does not mean that it’s over,” Barnes said. “I know that you’re all disappointed and I’m disappointed, too because we all deserve better. But more than that, I’m determined.”
Barnes also encouraged his supporters to stay engaged in the political process despite the loss.
“This is not the time for us to tune out, It’s the time for us to double down,” Barnes said. “It’s the time for us to show up like we’ve never shown up before, to make sure that Ron Johnson, every political leader knows that they answer to every person in Wisconsin, not just the people that voted for them.”
