MADISON, Wis. — Several lanes at one of Madison’s busiest intersections that were set to be closed Monday night will now be open.
The closures will primarily impact South Blair Street and East Wilson Street as crews work to complete pavement markings on the newly redesigned intersection. Closures started last week and were postponed until Sunday night due to snow and cold weather.
The closure originally planned for Monday night is canceled and the intersection will be open to all movements. Parts of the intersection will be closed Tuesday night while crews complete work.
Closures will start at 9 p.m. and run until 6 a.m. the following morning.
The following traffic lanes will remain open during the scheduled closures:
- Eastbound right turns from East Wilson Street onto John Nolen Drive
- Westbound left turns from Williamson Street onto John Nolen Drive
- Northbound right turns from John Nolen Drive onto Williamson Street
South Blair Street will be fully closed between Railroad Street and East Wilson Street.
Metro’s Transit Route 4 will continue to run through the intersection and will not see any service disruptions. Routes for bikers and pedestrians will not be impacted.
City staff started redesign work on the intersection earlier this year; city engineering staff said new left-turn lanes, medians, signals and updated railroad gates will make the area safer for pedestrians, bikers and drivers alike.
