MADISON, Wis. — Children receiving care in SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital’s Pediatric Unit will have an upgraded place to play thanks to the Maggie Lane Pediatric Memorial Fund.
The endowment fund paid to fill the unit’s playroom with all new toys and holiday decorations to make kids’ stay in the hospital a little more comfortable.
“The playroom is very important for the kids that are here in the hospital because it’s a scary time for them, so they’re able to leave their room and come in and get away from the scary things… of their stay,” registered nurse Lisa McCann said. “If they’re not able to leave their room, we’re able to take toys into their room to make it fun for them.”
The fund is named after Maggie Rae Lane, who died in 2002 following a stay in the hospital’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Her parents started the fund in her memory to honor her life and to support other families going through similar situations.
