MADISON, Wis. — A former Milwaukee County judge who pleaded guilty to federal charges of child pornography distribution last year was granted a petition Friday to have his license to practice law revoked.
Brett Blomme, 39, of Cottage Grove was sentenced to nine years in prison and 20 years of supervised release last year after pleading guilty. He also faced seven felony charges of child pornography possession in Dane County, however, online court records show that those charges were dismissed by a prosecutor’s motion following his federal conviction.
A ruling filed by the State Supreme Court on Friday stated Blomme filed a petition to have his own law license revoked. Blomme’s petition said he could not successfully defend himself against an Office of Lawyer Regulation investigation. The investigation was focused on allegations of professional misconduct in connection with his conviction.
The court accepted Blomme’s petition and his license was revoked. In its ruling, the Court admonished Blomme for committing his crimes while serving as a Milwaukee Co. Children’s Court judge.
“Public trust in our court system depends upon public trust in the integrity of its judges,” the ruling said. “Attorney Blomme’s blatant disregard for the law during the time he sat on the judicial bench jeopardizes public confidence in the courts and reflects adversely on the entire bar.”
