MADISON, Wis. — Some lanes of Madison’s hairball intersection east of Monona Terrace will once again be shut down this week as crews work to wrap up construction work for the year.
Officials said the outside lanes for both northbound John Nolen Drive and southbound Blair Street will be closed starting Thursday morning and through Friday afternoon. Only one lane in each direction will be closed, so drivers can still travel in either direction, but trips may take slightly longer.
In the meantime, crews will be working to assemble and install new traffic signals at the intersection.
“The temporary lane closures are one of the final actions as this project moves closer to completion for the 2022 construction season,” City of Madison City Engineer Jim Wolfe said. “The installation of traffic signals will ensure the continued safety of the intersection.”

The entire project is set to be completed by the fall of 2023. The majority of the remaining work will focus on East Washington Avenue.
