MADISON, Wis. — Madison police say no one was hurt when a moving truck on the westbound Beltline was hit by a gunshot Wednesday afternoon.
Police officials say the incident happened in the area between Todd Dr. and Seminole Highway at about 4:40 p.m. Wednesday. The driver of the truck that was hit says he does not believe he was the intended target of the gunshots.
The truck had its passenger side window shot out as a result, with the bullet leaving the vehicle through the front windshield. Despite the damage to the truck, police were unable to find any bullet casings in the area.
Police say they are continuing to investigate the incident.
A recent report from the department found shots fired incidents in the city decreased in the third quarter of this year compared to the same period last year, with 38 shots-fired incidents being reported between July 1 and September 30 of this year. That represented a 43% drop from last year, when police responded to 67 shots-fired calls between July and September.
